What do these numbers mean?

What ping is good for competitive gaming?

Under 40ms is ideal for tactical FPS and fighting games. 40–70ms is still competitive. Above 100ms, hit registration and ability timing become unreliable.

Jitter vs ping — what's the difference?

Ping is the average round trip. Jitter is how much that round trip varies. Low average ping with high jitter still feels laggy because the game can't predict where players will be next frame.

How does packet loss affect gaming?

Lost packets force the game to extrapolate, causing rubber-banding, missed shots, and ability desync. Even 1% loss is noticeable in competitive shooters.

What causes lag spikes?

Wi-Fi interference, router CPU saturation under heavy load, background downloads, and ISP routing changes. Ethernet and router QoS solve the majority of cases.

Cloud gaming requirements

Cloud gaming needs sustained low latency (under 50ms), tight jitter, and 25+ Mbps download — closer to a real-time call than a video stream.

How long should I test?
