Speed Testing
Internet Speed Testing Methodology
Internet speed measurements on TechUtilityTools are produced entirely in the browser using HTTPS payload transfers and high-resolution timers.
Download testing
Download throughput is measured by streaming sized payloads from public endpoints over HTTPS. Concurrent streams are used to saturate links typical of modern broadband.
Upload testing
Upload throughput uses sized POST payloads. Mobile networks and asymmetric links typically report lower upload than download.
Latency and packet timing
Latency uses small request round-trips. Jitter is derived from inter-sample variance.
Browser and Wi-Fi limitations
Browser sandboxing, Wi-Fi airtime contention, and adjacent network activity all bound the achievable throughput observable from the browser.
ISP variability
Routing, peering, time of day, and ISP congestion can change observed results between sessions.
