What is packet loss?

Packet loss is the percentage of network probes that never return. Above 1% causes audible glitches in calls and visible lag in games — even when speed tests look fine.

Jitter vs latency

Latency is how long a round-trip takes. Jitter is how much that time varies between probes. High jitter is what makes voice and games feel 'choppy' even at low average latency.

Why mode presets?

Gaming tolerates 60ms latency but hates 20ms jitter; streaming tolerates higher latency but is sensitive to bursts of loss. Each mode tunes thresholds and the health score accordingly.

How do I fix unstable internet?

Wired Ethernet eliminates Wi-Fi noise. Restarting the router clears DHCP and buffer issues. If multiple targets show loss, escalate to your ISP — it's likely upstream.
